Jan Carter Goble

Jan Carter Goble, 62, of Calhoun, GA departed this life on January 31, 2017 at his residence. Jan was born in Calhoun to Gordon Lee and Jean Everett Goble and lived his entire life in Gordon County. He attended Resaca Elementary School through 8th grade, graduated from Calhoun High School, obtained his associate degree from Dalton Junior College, and his Bachelor of Science degree from Berry College. Jan was a C.P.A. and a partner at Dobbs & Company, C.P.A.s. He counted his clients as friends. Jan was a long-time member of and attended the First United Methodist Church of Calhoun. He was also a dedicated Calhoun High School football supporter. Jan enjoyed playing golf and a highlight each spring and fall was the annual golf trip with friends. He enjoyed being with family and friends and making them laugh. He was especially proud to be the grandfather of seven special people. Jan was preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Jean Goble, father and mother-in-law Bill and Helen Purcell, brother-in-law Jerry Mulkey, nephews Shane Brown and Dwayne Goble, and niece Regina Mulkey. Jan is survived by his wife of 41 years, Beth Purcell Goble, children Patrick (Mendy) Goble, Andrew (Camille) Goble, Mary Catherine (Daniel) Tritt, William (Ashley) Goble, grandchildren Madelyn and Carter Goble, Stella Goble, Eli and Jonah Tritt, and Molly and June Goble. Surviving siblings are Richard (Sue) Goble, Rebecca (Jack) Brown, Judy Mulkey, and Roger (Van) Goble. Jan is also survived by several nieces and nephews with spouses that were very special to him. Pall bearers include Jason Barton, Chap Goble, Daryl Goble, Max Holland, Barton Mathews, Robert Mathews, Jarod Powell, Joshua Powell, Charles Purcell and James Purcell. Honorary pall bearers include Dickie Bone, Steve Bone, Shawn Brown, Jerry Clements, Randall Fox, Matthew Hall, Steven Hall, Barry Holbert, Ryan LaForge, David Lance, Ben Land, John Land, Fisher Law, Jim Mathews, William Mathews, John Meadows, Chris Mulkey, Terry Mulkey, Jimmy Palmer, Bob Parlo, Steve Paul, Russell Powell, Luke Purcell, Samuel Purcell, Jeff Rampy, Rick Robbins, Steve Robbins, Vaughn Robbins, Brett Smith, Jeff Smith., and Keith Shumaker. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Calhoun First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 517, Calhoun, GA 30703. Visitation will be Thursday, February 2nd from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Calhoun First United Methodist Church and the celebration of life will be Friday, February 3rd at 11:00 a.m. also at the Calhoun First United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Revs Eddie Herring, Jerry Rice, and Joel Purcell. Interment to follow at Chandler Cemetery.
