James Culton Thomas, age 72 of Calhoun, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2013 in Redmond Regional Medical Center. James was born on July 21, 1941 in Gordon County to the late Oscar Thomas and Ida Mae Fite Thomas. He was a 40 year employee of Lockheed Aircraft. He was a member of the Oothcalooga Masonic Lodge #154 where he had just received his 25 year pin. He was also a member of the Sons of Legionnaires and the Antique Engine and Tractor Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Grethel, Jack and Richard Thomas; sisters, Mary Ida Chadwick, Zelphia Wright, Betty Ruth Thomas and Margarite Thomas. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Thomas of Calhoun; one son, Culton Thomas of Dalton; one daughter, Yvette Thomas Dickens and her husband John of Rome; one step-son, Kenneth Lynn Rogers of Calhoun; one brother, Willis Thomas and his wife Liz of Dalton; one sister, Kitty Craven and her husband Dennis of Cummings; seven grandchildren, Tiffany Thomas, Dylan Thomas, Jake Thomas, Alexandria Dickens, John Dickens, Dustin Rogers and Jonathan Rogers; four great-grandchildren also survive. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, Oct. 11th from 6:00 until 8:00pm at Thomas Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Pl Memphis, TN 38105 or the Masonic Home of Georgia at 1417 Nottingham Dr Macon, GA 31211.
