Thursday, September 17, 2009 James Morgan Talley, age 91, a well-known carpenter and farmer in Gordon County. Died Wednesday evening September 16th in Redmond Regional Hospital. Morgan was born May 29, 1918 in Gordon County. Son of the late Starling Lewis and Mollie Stone Talley. He was a decorated veteran of WWII having earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star while serving with the United States Army. He was a member of the New Zion Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Martin Anderson Talley. His son, Ronnie Talley, Stepson, David Anderson, four sisters, and six brothers also precede him. Survivors include his daughter, Diane Thurman and her husband Daniel of Calhoun. Stepson, Rev. Willie Calvin Anderson and his wife Linda of Calhoun. Daughter-in-law, Barbara Talley of Fairmount. A granddaughter, Michelle Terry of Rome, a great grandchild; Hagen Clay Morgan Talley as well as additional grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday September 19th at 2pm from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home. With Rev. Arvil Howard, Rev. Jimmie Faith, and Rev. Gene Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery with full military rites. Pallbearers serving include; Fredrick Talley, Brant Talley, Randy Lamb, Keith Byrd, Billy Smith, Dan Fuller, Harvey Harrelson, and Brian Harrelson. Honorary escorts will include; Turk “Ernest” Talley, Donald Sloan, Arnold Bell, Paul Gentry, Aron Lamb, Tim Langston, Robert King, Matthew Lee, and Ricky Smith. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 until 8pm.
