James A. "Pa" Slaughter

James A. “Pa” Slaughter, age 87 of Resaca, GA, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at his residence.

James was born on February 12, 1935 in Gordon County, GA, son of the late William Berry Slaughter and Emma Josephine Jones Slaughter. In addition to his parents, James was also preceded in death by: his wife, Gertrude “Trudy” May Slaughter; son, James Dean Slaughter; granddaughter, Marissa Ann Slaughter; and two brothers, Ollie Slaughter and Jason Newberry. James was a veteran of the United States Army. He attended Resaca Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter.

James is survived by: three sons, Monty Eugene Slaughter and his wife Diana of Sugar Valley, GA, Michael Anthony Slaughter of Resaca, GA and Mitchell Miles Slaughter of Resaca, GA; four grandchildren, Amanda Jones and her husband Tyler, Amelia Harrell and her husband Michael, Justin Slaughter and his wife Bree and Torey Cooper and her husband Zane; and three great-grandchildren, Jason Jones, Jasper Slaughter and Avaleigh Slaughter.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 from 4 PM until 7 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 11 AM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Lucas Butler officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery.

Pallbearers serving are: Gary Lanier, Eric Rutledge, Steve Tate, Zane Cooper, Tyler Jones, Justin Slaughter, Dairl Umphrey and Craig Jones.

In lieu of flowers donations in memory of James may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to The American Cancer Society.
