James Ray Seritt

Ray was born on March 9, 1938 in Floyd County, Georgia, son of James Allen Seritt and Ethel Cleo Seritt.  Ray served in the United States Air Force from October 1, 1956 until December 1, 1959 at Scott Air Force Base Illinois and then in Iceland until discharged at Moody Air Force Base in Macon, Georgia. Ray attended and was a member of New Town Baptist Church. He was a retired self-employed independent truck driver.

Ray is survived by two sons, Brian Seritt (Mitzi) of Knoxville, Tennessee and Russ Seritt of Merritt Island, Florida.  Also survived by his loving companion Bettye Gilbert of Calhoun, Georgia.  Four grandchildren, Bryce, Ty, Jaxon and Allie Seritt.  Four sisters, Faye Griffith of Lagrange, Georgia, Vickie Moore (Jerry) of Calhoun, Ga., Lisa Seritt of Adairsville, Ga., and Sandra Lowery of Louisville,Georgia, several nieces and nephews and his extended family: sons Larry Gilbert (Sandy), Michael Gilbert (Sherri); grandchildren: Terry Weldon (Renae), Matthew and his wife Kira, grandchildren: Hunter and McKenzie Gilbert, and great-grandchildren Chloe Rice and Brynlee Weldon.

The family will receive friends at Thomas Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 15 from 4 pm to 7 pm.  

On Wednesday, November 16 he will lie in state at New Town Baptist Church from 10 am until the time of service at 11 am.  Service will be conducted by the Chaplin of Home Spun Hospice Group, Stacy Hensley and music by Faye Pierce Bently and family.  Burial will be at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia at 2 pm.

Pallbearers are Terry Weldon, Matthew Gilbert, Kim Holcomb, Ethan Holcomb, Joey Griffith and Chad Griffith.
