James E. Owens, age 83 of Calhoun, passed away on Tuesday, January 19th at his residence.
James was born on November 18, 1932 in Gordon County son of the late A. C. Owens, Sr. and Mae Mealor Owens. He was a Korean Era Veteran of the United States Air Force and was the manager of Dixie Finance prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church. James was a deacon and choir director for twenty-eight years and was well known as a member of the Owens Family Quartet.
Survivors include his wife of more than 61 years, Evelyn Owens of Calhoun; one daughter, Vicki Dillard of Calhoun; one son, Edward Owens and his wife Kaye of Calhoun; two brothers, Ernest Owens and his wife Betty and Kenneth Owens and his wife Debbie of Calhoun; four sisters, Pauline Davis of Calhoun, Dolly McEntyre of Calhoun, Linda Galloway and her husband Jimmy of Calhoun, and Dimple Darnell and her husband Edward of McDonough; two grandchildren, Stevie Dillard and his wife Rachel and Shannon Dillard; and two great-grandchildren, Bly James and Luke Dillard also survive.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday January 21st at 3pm from Heritage Baptist Church with Rev. Brent Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Music will be arranged by One Touch.
Pallbearers serving include Jimmy Palmer, Roger Rigney, Todd Rutledge, Maurice Jones, Joel Dailey, and Tommy Pierce. Honorary Pallbearers will be Boyd Baker, Joe Pistacchio, Donald Daniel, Homer Smith, Bobby Chastain, Mike Rutledge, Ernest Rutledge, Clay Talley, Charles Burrell, Hugh Dell West and Lamar Dean.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5 until 8pm at Heritage Baptist Church.
