James “J.T.” Thomason, age 78 of Calhoun, passed away Tuesday afternoon at Calhoun Health Care surrounded by his loving family.
J.T. was born on November 22, 1935 in Gordon County to the late James Virgil Thomason and Zora Elizabeth Greeson Thomason. J.T. attended the Calhoun First Baptist Church. He was a true outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, travel and especially golf and was a lifetime member of the Calhoun Elk’s Lodge. He also had a knack for designing everything from homes to roads. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, John Thomason.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judy B. Thomason of Calhoun; three sons and daughter-in-laws, Mike and his wife Diane Thomason of Blairsville, GA, Doug and his wife Debbie Thomason of Calhoun, and Steve and his wife Jennifer S. Thomason of Calhoun; two sisters, Patsy Sue and her husband Rex Prater, Martha and her husband Mike Miller; sister-in-law, Margaret Thomason; father-in-law, George Sewell; grandchildren, April Thomason, Amy T. Kuehnel, Mark Thomason, Katie Thomason, and Kelly Roe Mashburn; step-grandson, Brian Cagle; eight great-grandchildren; two special friends, Buck and Shirley Prather; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday January 9th at 2 pm from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Reverend Brent Davis and Reverend Jether Cochran. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Marilyn Roland and Rev. Jether Cochran will have charge of music.
Pallbearers serving will be Caris Roland, James Hyde, Keith Parker, Brandon Allen, Phillip Lanier, and David Prater.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Buck Prater, Wayne Branton, Boyd Highfield, and members of the Calhoun Elk’s Lodge.
The family will receive friends Wednesday January 8th from 5pm until 8pm at Thomas Funeral Home.
