James Monroe "Jimmy" French

James Monroe “Jimmy” French, age 94, a well-known farmer of the Red Bud Community, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center.

 

Jimmy was born on November 15, 1928 in Calhoun, GA, son of the late Phil Ray French and Ada Bell Parsons French. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was also preceded in death by: his wife, Ova Lee Gravitt French; daughter, Lisa Ann French; three brothers, Ray French, A.W. “Dub” French and Willard French; sister, Charlcie French Burns; great-granddaughter, Olive French; and son-in-law, Ted Thompson. Jimmy was salutatorian of the graduating Class of Red Bud High School in 1945. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Jimmy was a past master and 68-year member of the Coosawattee Masonic Lodge #306 at Pine Chapel and was the oldest living member.  He was also the oldest member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee. He was retired from the Poultry Industry.

 

Jimmy is survived by: his children, Phil French of the Red Bud Community, Kent French of the Red Bud Community, Craig French and his wife Laura of the Red Bud Community, Stuart French and his wife Janet of the Red Bud Community, Marie French Reeves and her husband Steve of Zebulon, GA, Brad French and his wife Nancy of Washington State, Carrie French Thompson of the Red Bud Community and Cheryl French Hughes and her husband Niven of Ringgold, GA; sister, Betty Jo French Pass; sister-in-law, Jean French; twelve grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

 

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 2 PM until 4 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.

 

Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 4 PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Alan Miller and Reverend Jimmy Burns officiating. Michael Hunt will have charge of music. Interment will follow in Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
