James Larry Ellis, Sr.

James Larry Ellis, Sr. age 78 of Calhoun, GA, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center.

James was born on March 8, 1945 in Walker County, GA, son of the late Carl Ellis and Bessie Holcomb Ellis. Prior to retirement he worked as a contractor and farmer. James was a Vietnam Era Veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Carol Stansbury and her husband Richard.

James is survived by: his wife, Sondra Windom Ellis of Calhoun, GA; one son, James Larry “Jim” Ellis, Jr. of Adairsville, GA; one daughter, Joy Ellis Petty and her husband James of Calhoun, GA; one brother, Carl Ellis and his wife Dorlores of Ringgold, GA; and five grandchildren, Jessica DeLange and her husband Riley, Josh Ellis, Jacob Ellis and his wife Monica, Jarrett Ellis and his wife Jordan, Harmony Waldrop and her husband Leo; five great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, May 8^th at Sonoraville Baptist Church at 2 PM with Reverend Jamey Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Gordon Memorial Gardens. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 7^th at Thomas Funeral Home from 2 PM until 5 PM.  James will lie in state at Sonoraville Baptist Church on Monday, May 8th from 1 PM until 2 PM.
