Tuesday, January 08, 2008 Mr. James Allen Ray, age 88 of 1484 Roland Hayes Parkway, died today Monday January 7th. in Calhoun Health Care following an extended illness. James was born in Gordon County June 25, 1919 son of the late Charlie William and Octavia Hall Ray and had spent his entire life here. He was a retired farmer, auto machanic and textile worker, he was a member of the West Union Baptist Church. After his children grew up and left home he and his wife became loving foster parents. James was preceded in death by his wife Daisy Broome Ray on November 16, 1999 and a brother Paul Ray. Survivors include two sons; Walter Ray and his wife Thelma of Calhoun and Allen Ray also of Calhoun, three daughters; Jane Breeden and her husband James of Calhoun, Margaret Peace of Flowery Branch, Ga. and Shirley Johnson and her husband Michael of Fairmount , a brother; Ike Ray and his wife Joyce of Calhoun, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday January 9th. from the chapel of the Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Vince Gulledge officiating. Interment services will follow in the Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and are asked to meet at Thomas Funeral Home at 10:45 A. M. Tuesday evening. Michael Johnson and Julie Dickey will have charge of the music. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 until 9pm.
