Jack Neal Callahan, age 82, of Calhoun. Passed away peacefully Monday morning November 21st at his residence.
Jack was born March 17, 1929 in Tate, Georgia. Son of the late Carter and Carmen Fitz Callahan. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Belmont Baptist Church. He was a lifetime member and Past-Exalted Ruler of the Calhoun Elks Lodge. Jack was a avid golfer and sportsman. His abilities on the baseball field and the basketball court was widely known. But the love of his life was his wife Dorothy Dean Callahan to whom he was married on Friday April 13, 1951 and preceded him in death in December 2003. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Dean Callahan.
Survivors include his four daughters, Debbie Thompson, Dee Dee Thompson and her husband Johnny, Donna Dobson, and Jackie Moore and her husband Allen all of Calhoun. One sister, Patsy Stewart and her husband Bobby of Douglasville. Seven grandchildren, Jaie Evans, Carmen Reid Schaumburg and her husband Robert, Chris Callahan, Brittany Reid, Dylan Thompson and his wife Dominique, Callie Dobson, and Jaxon Moore also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday November 23rd at 2pm from the Belmont Baptist Church. With Dr. Bert Vaughn and Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery.
Pallbearers serving include, Jaie Evans, Robert Schaumburg, Brent Anderson, Dylan Thompson, Jazz Gregoire, and Chris Hicks. Honorary escorts will be members of the Calhoun Elks Lodge and the Calhoun Elketts.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 4-8pm.
