J. E. DeFoor

Monday, June 30, 2008 Mr. J.E. DeFoor age 88 of 1971 Nicklesville Rd., Resaca, died Sunday June 29th. at the residence following an exdended illness. Mr. DeFoor was born in Gordon County on May 24, 1920 son of the late Lewis Ed and Jennie Caldwell DeFoor and has spent his entire life here. He was a member of the Mt.Zion Baptist Church and was retired from the Petroleum Oil retail business. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving with the U.S. Army, was a deacon at both Mt.Zion and Damascas Baptist Churches, was a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason, the Yarrab Temple and the Echota Vann Shrine Club. J.E. was a champion basketball and fast pitch soft ball player and an avid Atlanta Braves Fan. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife; Ada “Shebbie Lou” Wilbanks DeFoor on June 22, 2008, a son; Douglas Glenn DeFoor in 1968, and brothers; Tolbert and Otto “Bear” DeFoor and a sister-in-law; Mrs. Everett (Jeanette) DeFoor and sisters-in-law; Hazel and Pat DeFoor. Survivors include one son; Lynn DeFoor and his wife Lorinda of Resaca, brothers; Everett DeFoor and his wife Janie of Resaca, and Pedro DeFoor and his wife Farris of Calhoun one sister; Nettie Lou “Sissy” Hollingsworth and her husband Norman of Calhoun, grandchildren; Jonathan and Jennette DeFoor, Jeremy and Celina Defoor, Christopher , Ashley and Alison Gresham. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday July 2nd. from the Chapel of the Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. James Cobb and Rev. Eddie Ledford officiating.Interment will follow in the Damascas Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers serving include Zane and Lane DeFoor, Danny DeFoor, Jeff DeFoor, Tim Roe, Matt and Brian Ruddell. Honorary pallbearers will be Masons and Shriners and all these gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home at 3:30 P.M. Wednesday. The family will receive friends at the Thomas Funeral Home from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Tuesday.
