Monday, February 04, 2008 Mr. J. Hollis Burns, Sr. age 78 of Calhoun died Sunday, February 3 at his residence following an extended illness. Hollis was born in Gordon County, October 12, 1929, a son of the late Lee Burns and Vera Everett Burns. Also, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Leila Burns, Berline DeFoor, Geneva Hammontree and Hoyt Burns. He was a veteran of the Korean War, US Army, a retired employee of the Georgia Forestry Commission, Senior Forest Ranger, and member of the Reeves Baptist Church. Hollis is survived by his wife, Charlcie French Burns; one son, Jim Burns and his wife, Donna; one daughter, Penny Holcomb and her husband, Phil; one sister, Audrey Barnette and her husband, Reverend Fite Barnette; four grandchildren, Trey Burns, Amber Burns, Haley Hollingsworth and her husband Brandon, Josh Holcomb and his fiancée’, Becky Newman; and one great grandchild, Trenton Hollingsworth. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 5 at the Reeves Baptist Church with the Reverends Steve Baker and Clinton Carver officiating. Patti Baker and Ronnie Hammonree will have charge of music. Burial will be in Gordon Memorial Gardens. The Burns family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 PM, Monday at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Richard and Ronnie Hammontree, Jerry and Jackie Burns, Phillip Barnette, Tommy Blalock, and Rayburn McDougle. They are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 PM Tuesday.
