Geneva Hunt McAfee, 94, of 4462 Highway 411 NE, Ranger died Sunday, January 8, 2012 in Calhoun following a brief illness. Geneva, born on May 13, 1917, was the daughter of the late William Paul Hunt, Sr. and Josie Ann Smith Hunt. She and her late husband, Olen McAfee lived on a large farm in Gordon County on the Coosawattee River since 1940. They were very family oriented with their home being a favorite gathering place for many relatives of both the Hunts and McAfees. They worked together with their children and many other families who lived on the farm through the years to operate the farm until retirement age. Many of these families became lifelong friends of the McAfees. She was active in the community as a member of the Oakman Baptist Church; she was involved in many church related activities and held the position as church treasurer for a number of years. She was a member of the Oakman Community Club, Ranger Community Club, Oakman-Ranger Home Demonstration Club, and the Red Carpet Cattlemen Association. She served several years as a volunteer for the Blewer Food Center; served as a Gordon County Jury Commissioner, and was the Voting Poll Manager for Oakman voting district for several years. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Terry D. McAfee and a great- granddaughter, Kadie Ann Yates. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph, Sam, William Paul, Jr. and Lee Hunt and a sister, Idelle Hunt Rutledge. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Charlcie and Bob Stamey of Ranger, Sandra and Frank Hall of Calhoun, Debbie and Sammy Hogan of Ranger, daughter-in-law Becky McAfee of Chatsworth,two sisters, Maxine Floyd of Plainville and Sara Hammond of Sugar Valley, one sister in law, Doris Hunt of Calhoun grandchildren Kelly Seabolt, Kim Clark, David Hall, Stacy Hall, and Chad Hall, Brooke Keeler, Brandon Smith, Edward McAfee and J. Thomas Palmer. Other survivors include several great-grandchildren and one great, great grandchild, nieces, nephews and cousins. Services are Wednesday, January 11 at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Gibson and Rev. Michael Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens with Rev. Michael Hunt conducting the graveside service. Pallbearers include Kelly Seabolt, David Hall, Stacy Hall, Chad Hall, Brandon Smith, Edward McAfee, James Clark, J. Thomas Palmer, and J. T. Palmer. The Senior Sunday School Class of Oakman Baptist Church will serve as honorary pall- bearers and include Dick Brown, Jimmy and Joyce Craig, Carla Craig, Christine Stone, Marty and Beverly Audette, Glen and Ann Mallet, Norman and Shelby Millsap, Roger and Bobbie Owens, Faye Lewis, Elaine Parker, and Barbara Roberts.
