Hiram Russell Jordan

Friday, February 15, 2008 Mr. H.R.“Russell”Jordan, age 87, of Fairmount. Died Friday February 15th in Gordon Health Care following several months of declining health. Mr. Jordan was born in Cherokee County September 4, 1920. Son of the late Levi Milburn and Bessie Lee Cowart Jordan. He was veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army. Mr. Jordan was a member and Deacon of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church and was a farmer and textile worker prior to his retirement. His wife Arva Jean Henson Jordan preceded him in death in May of 2003. Survivors include two daughters, Gail Underwood and her husband Jack of Calhoun and Lanita Ray of Savannah; two sisters, Irene Brown of Cohutta and Lorena Nix of Fairmount Grandchildren, Jack Underwood Cheryl Thomas, John Underwood, Reba Moss, Victoria Donaway and A.J. Hufsteler; Great-Grandchildren, Jason and Grant Underwood Alden and Raina Donaway, Sarah, Gregory, Stephanie Thomas. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 17 at 2 P.M. at the Mount Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Wells and Rev. Larry Hibberts officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Lamar Hand in charge of graveside Rites. Pallbearers are Deacons of Mount Olive Baptist Church. The body of Mr. Jordan will lie in state from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Sunday at the church preceding the funeral service, and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Saturday evening.
