Herbert Lamar "Fat Rabbit" Owens

Herbert Lamar “Fat Rabbit” Owens, age 89 of Calhoun, GA, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2021 at AdventHealth Gordon. Herbert was born on February 9, 1931 in Gordon County, GA, son of the late Hub Owens and Emma Greeson Owens. In addition to his parents, Herbert was also preceded in death by: his wife, Carolyn Bussey Owens; two sons, Chuck Owens and Jimmy Owens; grandson, Andrew Owens; sister, Vivian Owens Sheehan; and son-in-law, Bailey Oliver. Herbert was a lifetime resident of Gordon County and prior to his retirement worked as an electrician. Herbert was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a member of the American Legion Post 47, where he was a Past Commander. Herbert is survived by: his daughter, Gail Owens Oliver; three grandchildren, Maxwell Oliver and his wife Lorrie, Michael Owens and his wife Shawnett, and Stacey Anderson; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 11 AM at Bennett Cemetery with Reverend Walter Printup officiating. Due to the ongoing national health crisis, face coverings must be properly worn by all those who plan to attend. Social distancing guidelines must be followed at all times while attending the service.
