Mr. Henry H. Owings, Jr., age 85 of the Resaca Community died at 8:10 PM, Thursday in Gordon Health Care.
Henry was born, October 25, 1921 in Chattooga County, a son of the late Henry H. Owings, Sr. and Mattie Lou Gaskin Owings. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Jim Owings and Helen Manis.
He was employed as a ship-fitter at Pearl Harbor by the US Navy for four years during World War II. Later, he served in the US Army during the Korean War for two years. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and was later employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for more than 35 years as a Soil Conservationist. He had resided in the Resaca community since 1964. Henry was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Calhoun.
Henry is survived by his wife, Ruth Owings of Resaca; one daughter, Priscilla Cronon and her husband, Vairon of Calhoun; one brother, Howard L. Owings and his wife Virginia of Gore.
Graveside rites will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 28 at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in the Gore Community of Chattooga County with Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
In addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church of Calhoun.
