Henry Huston Evans

Henry Huston Evans, age 67, of Calhoun, died Friday evening December 30th at his residence. Huston was born February 3, 1944 in Gordon County. Son of the late Vincent Evans and Annie Mae Suggs Evans. He was a member of the Belmont Baptist Church and the Sportsman's Sunday School Class. Huston was a graduate of Calhoun High School and was the first athlete to letter in the four majors sports an accomplishment that he was always proud of. His interest in sports never faded after high school. He became a avid golfer as well as refereeing and coaching many church and youth basketball and softball teams. Huston spent his entire professional life working for Cherokee Dye, later known as Astro Dye, and he always valued his relationship with Paul Smith, Merrill Dobbs, and Dick Montanero. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Christy Leigh Evans in 2003, a brother, Danny Allen Evans, and a sister in law, Rita Davis Lowe. Survivors include his wife, Paula Evans of Calhoun; two sons, Ty Evans of Calhoun and Seth Evans of Johnstown, PA.; one sister, Cathy Harrison and her husband Lamar of Calhoun; two grandchildren, Dean Evans and Emma Evans both of Calhoun; three nephews, Robert Powers II, John Mims Harrison both of Calhoun and Brett Harrison of Colorado; three nieces, Kela Hill of Calhoun, Darla Bardakjy of Atlanta, and Denine Ellis of Calhoun. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday January 3rd at 11am from the Belmont Baptist Church with Dr. John Allen and Rev. Jerry Rice officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Hawkins in charge of graveside rites. Music will be arranged by Rev. Jerry Rice, Ben Riley and Randy Clark as well as the men's group from Belmont "The Redeemed". Pallbearers serving include, John Mims Harrison, Brett Harrison, Robert Powers II, Jeff Shultz, Burton Fox, Kevin Patterson, Charles Baker, Jayanth (Jay) Manay. Honorary pallbearers will include, Merrill Dobbs, Gene Davis, and the Sportsmen's Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5 until 8pm. Huston will be taken Tuesday morning to the church to lie in state from 10am until the funeral hour at 11am. In addition to flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
