Helen Christine Dunaway, age 77 of Floyd County. Died Friday March 2nd in Floyd Medical Center. Helen was born January 17, 1935 in Gilmer County. She was raised in Gordon County but had spent most of her life in Floyd County. Helen was the daughter of the late George Walter Cornwell and Maybelle Higdon Cornwell. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Walton (Dugan) Roe Dunaway, Sr. in March 1974. Helen was also preceded by one brother, Henry Cornwell, and four sisters, Audrey M. Cornwell, Georgia Cornwell, Anita Cornwell, and Thelma Glass Callaway. Survivors include her children, Pat Brock, Walton Roe Dunaway, Jr. and his wife Kathy, Dewey Lee Dunaway and his wife Karen, Darlene Buffington and her husband Kim, Lena Whitener and her husband David, and Tina Watters. Two sisters, Lucille Glass and her husband J.E., and Lanette Busby. One brother, George Franklin Cornwell. Eighteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, along with a number of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Monday March 5th at 11am from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. James Holder officiating. Burial will follow in the New Armuchee Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers serving include, Ted Stanfield, Chris Buffington, Adam Buffington, Jeff Buffington, Greg Murdock, and Todd Murdock. Honorary pallbearers are Terry Rhodes and Kim Parker. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5 until 8pm at the funeral home.
