Hayward Bohannon, age 86 of Calhoun died Friday, December 6th in Floyd Medical Center. He was born in Gordon County, April 4, 1927, son of the late David Bohannon and Odell Hayes Bohannon. Also, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Nesbitt Bohannon on January 13, 1997; his childhood caregivers, Olin and Mamie Hayes; two children, Gayle Bohannon and Neal Bohannon; and two sisters, Virginia Carney, and Barbara Bynum. Hayward was a lifetime resident of Gordon County; a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II, he was a retired employee of Shaw Industries; and a member of the Oostanaula Baptist Church. He is survived by four daughters, Roxane Burns and her husband, Jerry of Calhoun, Melinda Mashburn and her husband Michael of Resaca, Deena Dickerson and her husband Robbie of Kennesaw, Lori Stokes and her husband, Jimmy of Calhoun; one brother, Myron Bohannon of Calhoun; one sister, Peggy Adcock of Adairsville; nine grandchildren, Jacin Burns and his wife Hailey, Jayla Burns, Jared Burns, Steven Mashburn and his wife Lori, Zeke Bohannon, Autumn Stokes, Kathryn Stokes, Hannah Dickerson, and Harley Dickerson; five great grandchildren, Kaysen Mashburn, Jackson and Levi Burns, Gage and Jaxin Spivey; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 P.M. Monday, December 9, at the Oostanaula Baptist Church with the Reverend Michael Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Rick Langston officiating. Hope Grogan, Scott Everett, and David Mashburn will be in charge of music. The Bohannon family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 PM, Sunday at Oostanaula Baptist Church. Active pallbearers are Eddie Carney, David Bynam, Jacin Burns, Jared Burns, Zeke Bohannon, and Steve Mashburn. Honorary escort are granddaughters: Jayla Burns, Autumn Stokes, Kathryn Stokes, Hannah Dickerson, and Harley Dickerson. They are asked to meet at the church at 1:15 PM, Monday.
