H. Fite Barnette

Thursday, January 15, 2009 Rev. H. Fite Barnette, age 89, of Calhoun. Died Thursday Morning January 15th in Gordon Health Care following several months of declining health. Fite was born in Gordon County August 31, 1919. Son of the late Gus “Nunally” and Mable Fite Barnette. He was a well known minister who retired in 1981 after spending his life organizing churches all over Georgia including Calvary Baptist Church, Thomaston Road Baptist Church, Lovejoy Baptist Church, Liberty Baptist Church at College Park and in Gordon County Belmont Baptist and Graves Baptist Church were he is still a member. Fite was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII. He was preceded in death by his infant son, James Norris Barnette. Brother, Edwin Barnette. Sisters, Lucy, Swea, and Betty Barnette. Survivors include his wife, Audrey Burns Barnette. Four children, Philip Barnette and his wife Michelle, Carol Jenkins, Linda Blankenship and her husband Dennis, and Brenda Goering and her husband J.B.. Brothers, Gus and Billy Barnette. Sisters, Elizabeth Dodd and Jonnie Barnette. Seven grandchildren, David, Micah, Harley, Matt, Casey, Cheryl and Jenny. Seven great-grandchildren, Tabitha, Tori, Adam, Ben, Nora Grace, Mitchell, and Matthew. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday January 17th at 2 p.m. in Belmont Baptist Church. With Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in the West Union Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Matthew Futch in charge of graveside rites. Music will be arranged by Jim and Treva Sellers. Grandsons and Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Friday evening at the funeral home from 5 until 8 p.m.. and on Saturday until 12:30 at which time Rev. Barnette will be taken to the church to lie in state from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour.
