“Glo” Gay Hobgood, age 86 of Calhoun, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Gordon Health Care.
Glo was born on October 25, 1929 in Gulfport, Mississippi to the late John Champlin Gay and Jennie Tucker Gay. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Keith Hobgood. Glo was a member of Calhoun First United Methodist Church, and was a retired music teacher for Calhoun City Schools.
Born and raised on the Mississippi Coast, Glo continued to love sand, sea and fishing all her life. After receiving her degree in Music Education at Shorter College and subsequently marrying a Calhoun boy, she lived more than sixty years in Georgia, most of that in Cal-houn. She brought music into the Calhoun City Schools, loved the woods and mountains of North Georgia, and was a lovely light to all who knew her.
She is survived by two sons, Keith Hobgood and his wife Chantelle of Windsor, Colorado, and Tucker Hobgood and his wife Mari of Marietta; two daughters, Holli Savage and her husband Tim of Calhoun, and Gay Hammond of Gainesville; one sister, Jonne Gay Pollina of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday, October 10th at 11 AM at Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor Eddie Herring officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery with Connor Hammond, Tim Savage, Patrick Savage III, Jim Hobgood, Scott Bass, John Hobgood and Clay Doss serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 2 PM until 4 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
