Mr. Gertis Goswick, age 79 of the Plainville Community died peacefully Friday, March 27, after a brief illness in Gordon Hospital.
Mr. Goswick or Papaw as he was lovingly called was born in Gordon County, June 19, 1929, a son of Eugene and Lizzie McEntyre East Goswick. He was a lifelong resident of Plainville and was a member of the Plainville United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 55 years, Louise Busby Goswick on January 15, 2006. Also preceding him in death were his nine sisters and two brothers. Mr. Goswick was well loved and respected by all who knew him. He met no strangers and was always happy and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He leaves behind his four children, Ross Goswick, Laura Wright and her husband Larry, Travis Goswick and his wife Mary all of Plainville, Danny Goswick and his wife Susan of Resaca. He was a loving papaw to seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great, great, grandchild as well as a host of many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, 2:00 PM March 29 at the Plainville United Methodist church with the Reverend Richard Webster officiating. Dana Webster, Bruce King, and Amber Lee will arrange music and singing. Mr. Goswick will be carried to the church to lie in state from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour. Graveside and interment services will be at Scott Cemetery in Plainville. Pallbearers will be Jesse Baker, Cory Baker, Daniel Howard, Roy Beck, Roger Scott, and Jerry Jones, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Beck, and Jacob Beck. The family will see friends at Thomas Funeral Home in Calhoun Saturday, March 28 between the hours of 6:00 and 9:00 PM
