George C. Hudgens, Jr., age 87 of Calhoun, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2014 in Calhoun Health Care.
George was born on August 1, 1926 in Hamilton County, TN to the late George C. Hudgens, Sr. and Ila B. Godfrey Hudgens. George served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Yorktown CV10. He was proud of his naval service in the South Pacific during WWII. He was formerly a deacon and Sunday school teacher at East Gate Baptist Church, and was also a member of the Oothcalooga Masonic Lodge #154 F&AM. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin daughters, sister, Anna Bell Hudgens, and brother, Roy Lee Hudgens.
He is survived by his wife, Wilena H. Hudgens of Calhoun; son, Steve Hudgens and his wife Janice of Calhoun; daughter, Pat Hudgens Russell of Nashville, TN; sister, Betty Broome and her husband Robert of Rockmart, GA; two grandchildren, Geoff Russell and his wife Heidi, and Shannen Russell; one great-granddaughter, Maddie Russell; step-grandson, Cory Stephens and his wife Megan of Calhoun; three step-great-grandchildren, Jacob, Christian and Jesslyn Stephens.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, May 17th at 2:00pm from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Reverend Clinton Green and Reverend Dan Barton officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery.
Pallbearers serving include Geoff Russell, Cory Stephens, Tony Nicholson, Shawn Chastain, Harold Stamey, and Jacob Stephens.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:00pm until 8:00pm, and Saturday 12:00pm until the funeral hour at the funeral home.
