George Edward (Ed) Donn, age 85 of Calhoun, Georgia passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia. 

Ed was born in Washington, DC, on June 19, 1939. Raised in Forestville, Maryland, Ed was an avid runner in his youth and graduated from the University of Maryland on a track scholarship. He subsequently attended Frostburg State College where he earned a Masters degree in Education. Ed began his career teaching biology and coaching track at DuVal High School in Prince George’s County (MD). He transitioned into the field of pupil transportation where he served as the Director of Pupil Transportation in Washington County (MD), as well as in Whitfield County (GA). Throughout his career, Ed prioritized the safety of children through his active participation in the Georgia Association of Pupil Transportation and the National Association of Pupil Transportation, serving as President of both organizations. Ed established Donn Associates Consulting and worked with 247 Security Inc, providing school districts nationwide with security video systems.

Ed was a member of the Calhoun First Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, Treasurer and Session Member. He was a devoted family man and husband to his wife, Sandi of 60 years. He enjoyed baseball, football, golf, hunting, raising beagles, and his Spanish Mustang horses. He was active in the lives of his daughters, his four grandchildren, and his many friends and family members.

In addition to his parents, George and Mildred Donn, Ed was preceded in death by his wife Sandra Lee (nee Kennedy) Donn; and sister Delores Donn Edkins. Ed is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Melis of Calhoun, Georgia and Leslie Watt (Don Watt) of Nashville, Tennessee; and four grandchildren, Chelsea Melis of Acworth, Georgia; Gabriella Melis of Calhoun, Georgia, Lauren Watt Luke (Patrick Luke) of Salt Lake City, Utah; Adam Watt (Lauren Johnson Watt) of Atlanta, Georgia; and sister-in-law Delores (Dodie) Kennedy Barnes of Alexandria, Virginia. 

The family will receive family and friends on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 10:00–11:00 AM at Calhoun First Presbyterian Church, with funeral services immediately following at 11:00 AM with Dr. David McDonald and Rev. Nancy Bertrand.

A private burial will follow for family members at Chandler Cemetery, Calhoun, GA.
