Geneva Parsons

Sunday, August 03, 2008 Mrs. Geneva Davis Parsons age 97, of the Hill City Community, Gordon County died today August 3rd. in the Canton Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Parsons was born in Hill City, Ga. on Jan. 19th. 1911 daughter of the late Homer Ernest Davis and Bessie Lee Mote Davis and had been a lifelong resident. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; Merton Buford” Hank” Parsons, a son; Buford Parsons Jr, a brother; J.O. Davis and a nephew Timmy Davis. She taught school in the Gordon County Schools for over 40 years, mostly at Sugar Valley. In 1937 she earned a Life Professional Elementary Teacher’s Certificate. She had taught Sunday School for 62 years at Hill City Baptist Church. She was an alumnus of Central High School in Chattnooga, Tn. , North Georgia College and the University of Georgia. Survivors include three grandchildren; Whitney Parsons Sharp of Guyton, Ga., Judson Parsons of Canton , Ga. and Joshua Parsons also of Canton, Ga., nephews; Paul Davis and his wife Susie of Hill City, Roanna Day and her husband Mike of Hill City and a daughter-in-law; Debbie Parsons of Canton, Ga. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday August 5th. from the Hill City Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Sheriff and Rev. Dennis Reagan and Rev. Carl Billue officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. Margie Cantrell, Margaret Cline and Stacy Smith will have charge of the Music. Pallbearers serving include Terry Mills, Rodney Goble, Mitchell Edgman, Travis ,Ricky and Michael Smith and they are asked to meet at the Church at 1:45 P.M. Tuesday. On Tuesday the body will be carried to the church to lie instate from 2:00 until the funeral hour. The family will receive friends at the Thomas Funeral Home from 5:30 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Monday Eveneing.
