Mrs. Geneva Burns Hammontree, age 84 of Calhoun died at 10:55 AM, Sunday, December 2 in Gordon Hospital. Geneva was born in Gordon County, August 18, 1923, daughter of the late Lee Burns and Vera Everett Burns. Her husband, Roy R. Hammontree also preceded her in death. She was a lifetime resident of Gordon County, had been employed by Gordon Hospital for many years as head-dietitian and was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School Class.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Hammontree and his wife Jeanie of Franklin, Tennessee, Ronnie Hammontree and his wife Paula, three daughters, Joy Ward and her husband Larry, Margie King and her husband Ron, Kathy Greeson and her husband, Randy; one brother Hollis Burns and his wife, Charlsie; one sister, Audrey Barnette and her husband Reverend Fite Barnette; seven grandchildren, Stephen Stone, Tammy Long, Josh Greeson, Jenica Stephens, Jacob Hammontree, Holly Hammontree, and Jordan Hammontree; and 6 great grandchildren all of Calhoun.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 4 at the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating, and Father Louis Tonsmeier will have charge of graveside services in Fain Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Jackie, Jerry, and Jimmy Burns, Phillip Barnette, Tate and Ira Rich, Brian and Eddie Hammontree. Honorary escort are members of the Ruth Sunday School Class. Julie Dickey and Rachel Carter will have charge of music.
