Gene Henry Cole

Gene Henry Cole, age 65 of Adairsville, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at his residence after several months of declining illness. Gene was born on September 1, 1949 in Atlanta, GA to the late William H. Cole and Hester Mullinax Cole. Gene was a faithful member and deacon of Sonoraville Baptist Church. Gene was retired from Atlantic Steel after over 25 years of service. He later worked with Premier/Vesuvius. After retirement he started his own Lawn Care Company, Lawn Maintenance & Landscape Design and Pool Company, Cole's Pool Supplies & Service. Gene also drove a bus for Gordon County Schools for 6 years. Gene was well known throughout Northwest Georgia for his love of baseball. He was a devoted baseball coach during the years that his two sons played ball. A few of the leagues he coached are, Cartersville Little League, Bartow County Rec Departement and assisted for Gordon Central Baseball for many years, along with several travel teams. He was also a dedicated ball player himself and organized North West Georgia Mens Baseball League. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Wanda Brown Cole of 42 years; his two sons, Britt Cole and his wife Missy and Andrew Cole and his wife Beth, all of Adairsville, GA; his two grandchildren whom he loved and adored, Kaleb and Brittney Cole. His beloved dog, Ava, that has stood by his side for many years. A sister Margaret Yates and her husband Russell and brother Johnny Cole and his wife Jane of Snellville, GA and a sister in law, Carolyn Cole of Auburn, AL., along with several nieces and nephews and a host of close friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Will and Martha Mullinax, from Douglasville, GA and William H. & Lena Cole, of Atlanta, GA; father in law and mother in law, Leonard & Peggy Brown; his brother Bill Cole, infant baby sister and grandson William Noah Cole and several aunts and uncles. The family would like thank to Heyman Hospice Care of Rome and special caregivers Jerrie, Leah and Tammy. Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, March 7th at 2:00 PM from the Sonoraville Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Skates and Pastor Ken Comer officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers serving include Robert Yates, Russell Yates, Jimmy Fox, Michael Johnson, Bobby Draper, Louie McEntyre, Donnie Ralston and Dave West. They are asked to meet at Sonoraville Baptist Church on Saturday at 1:30 PM. Honorary Escorts are Sonoraville Baptist Deacons, Sonoraville Sunday School Class Adult V and Adult VII, Atlanta Steel Plant Employees and the ball players that he coached and played with. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 2 – 8 PM at Sonoraville Baptist Church.
