Gary Clyde "Crook" McEntyre passed away on December 26, 2023 at the age of 65, in his hometown of Calhoun, Georgia. His battle with cancer in recent months showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Gary came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
Gary was born in Calhoun, Georgia on April 15, 1958 to Gene and Dolly (Owens) McEntyre. He was saved at the age of 11 under the preaching of Reverend Billy Graham. He graduated from Calhoun High School in 1976. Gary was a dedicated worker and started working at a young age at the family grocery store in the meat market. After a long career in the rental uniform industry as a route service representative, he came full circle back to his love. For the past few years, he has worked in the meat market at Calhoun Wholesale Foods. Throughout his years, he was an avid hunter, golfer, Bill Elliott fan, and Georgia Bulldogs fan. Gary didn't want anyone to know, but he cheered for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets too, as long as they weren't playing Georgia, just for his daughter. Gary was always easy-going and loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Gary is survived by his mother, Dolly McEntyre, of Calhoun, father, Gene McEntyre, of Adairsville, daughter, Whitney Levins and husband Mike, and grandsons, Henry and Truett Levins, all of San Antonio, Texas, sister, Rhonda Long and husband Coy, of Calhoun, brother, Chris McEntyre and wife Trish, of Adairsville, niece, DeShea Young and husband Mickey, great-nephew Parker Young and wife Meri Kathryn and great-niece Meghan Young, all of Calhoun, many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and best friend, Britt Lowe, of Calhoun.
Pallbearers are Kenneth Abernathy, David Echols, Dale Hales, Mike Hales, David Maddox, Kenny McGill, Dewayne Smith, and K.D. Wright. Honorary pallbearers are all his friends from Gordon County Veterans, Inc.
