Freeman “Hop” Langley, age 88 of Calhoun and formerly of Plainville, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016 at Gordon Health Care.
Hop was born on April 19, 1927 in Floyd County to the late Frank Langley and Florence Ellis Langley. He was a member of the Plainville Church of God Prophecy. Hop was formerly employed by Trend Mills and retired from Fafnir. He spent his adult life dedicated to not just telling his children about how to live for God, but showing them in his everyday life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Ophelia Edwards Langley; granddaughter, Vanessa Padgett Blaylock; and eight brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his son, Ronnie Langley; two daughters, Joan Padgett and her husband Spencer, and Laverne Gravitt all of Calhoun; brother, Bill Langley of Scottsville; two grandchildren, Kim Gaddis and her husband Joe, and Michael Gravitt and his wife Melanie; three great-grandchildren, Lance West, Koty Gravitt, and Aspen Blaylock; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 6th at 1:00 PM from the Plainville Church of God Prophecy with Reverend Ronnie Chandler and Reverend Jerry Gaddis officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Aaron Flowers, Frankie Langley, Chris Langley, Jeff Smith, Shane Self and Charles Prater serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 4 until 8 PM at Thomas Funeral Home, and also on Wednesday at 12 PM at which time Mr. Langley will be taken to the church to lie in state until the funeral hour.
