Mr. Frank J. Burnette, age 85 of Calhoun died at 11:52 AM, Wednesday, February 27, 2008 in Calhoun Health Care.
Frank was born in Gordon County, December 2, 1922, son of the. late John Franklin Burnette and Ethel Corn Burnette, and was a lifetime resident. In the 40’s Frank worked as foreman in the shipyard in Brunswick, Georgia. In the 50’s he worked for J.L. Swanson in Calhoun for many years as a carpenter. He than went to work for the Calhoun City Schools as maintenance supervisor for 27 years retiring in 1988.
He was very involved in the Lions Club and served in every office of the Calhoun Lions Club and was also District Governor for the State of Georgia 18A. He received many awards during his involvement with the Lions Club and recently was honored by the Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind by the Calhoun Lions Club.
Frank is survived by his wife, Polly Baker Burnette of Calhoun; sons, Jimmy Burnette and his wife Helen of Sugar Valley; Don Cooley and his wife Sandy of Fairhope, Alabama; daughters, Pat Autry and her husband, Dan, Brenda Boswell and her husband, Edward all of Calhoun; seven grandchildren, Chad Cooley, Chip Cooley, Dena Wofford, Michelle Chapman, John Boswell, Michael Burnette, and Russell Boswell; nieces and nephews, and a special friend Jim Lay.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM. Friday, February 27, 2008 at the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Reverend Clifford Free, Dr. Bert Vaughn, and Jim Lay officiating. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 PM, Thursday at the funeral home.
In addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind, PO Box 1031, Waycross, Georgia 31502.`
Pallbearers are Chad Cooley, Chip Cooley, John Boswell, Mike Burnette, Russell Boswell, and Jay Wofford. Honorary pallbearers are Julian James, Jack Bell, Carlton Hyde, and Darren Gunter, members of the Calhoun Lions Club, and members of the Sycamore Men’s Bible Class. They are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:45 PM Friday.
The family wishes to thank Shaloy Penrose and Sharon Sisk, nurses with United Hospice and Dr. Paul LaBlanc . They had become such friends with Frank and the family during his illness.
