Francis Virginia Cox Chitwood May 6, 1914- March 17, 2009 Widow of Ralph L Chitwood, died August 19, 1963 Daughter of William Thomas and Myrtle Gwin Cox
Born in Oostanaula Community, but spent most of her life in Sugar Valley. Married November 30, 1935 to Ralph Lambert Chitwood. Member of the Sugar Valley Old Methodist Church. Finished high school in 1934 at Sugar Valley and a charter member of the Sugar Valley Alumni Association. Member of the Sugar Valley Home Demonstration Club having served as president and other offices and a member of the Board of Trustees. Charter member of the Sugar Valley Community Club and served on the board of directors when it was organized. Member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Preceded in death by husband Ralph L Chitwood August 19, 1963, son Jerry L Chitwood November 20, 2002, sister Nadine Cox Watkins April 2, 1981, Brother PFC. Allen John Cox November 5 1944 (killed in Germany), Niece of Paul Gwin for whom the American Legion Post 407 was named (killed in World War I).
Survivors include daughter in law Jane Chitwood of Dahlonega, GA, a grandson: Randy Chitwood and his wife Holly of Dawsonville, Ga along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon Friday March 20th. from the Chapel of the Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Padgett Nelson officiating. Interment will follow in the Fain Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour at 12:00 Noon.
