Thursday, May 14, 2009 Mrs. Frances James Smith age 79 of 47 College St., Calhoun, died Wednesday May 13th. in Floyd Medical Center following a brief illness. Frances was born in Bartow County, Ga. on July 5, 1929 daughter of the late Lee Edward and Leila Mae Baldwin James. She was a member of the Nellie Peters United Methodist Church and was a homemaker. In 1948 she started a nursing career at the Johnson Hall Clinic in Calhoun , from 1969 to 1982 she worked at Echota Cotton Mill/ Mt Vernon Mills and had worked at Gordon Hosptial and Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Bill Smith in 1984, and infant daughter; Renee Yvonne Smith, a grandson; William Lee “Bill” Smith on October 23rd. 1997 and a brother; Walter Lee James in 2006. Survivors include her daughter and her husband; Karen Denise and Johnny Stansell of Calhoun, two sons and their wives; William Douglas and Rickie Smith and Ross David and Nancy Smith all of Calhoun, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild and a special conpanion Bridgette, Funeral services will be conducted Saturday May 16th. at 3:00 P.M. from the Chapel of the Thomas Funeral Home with Revs. Jimmy and Terry Timms and Minister Henry Uhl officiating. Interment will be in the Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers serving include, Richard Bowles, Clinton Rogers, Corey Bradley, Mark Leatherwood, Mike Bearden and Danny Hensley and they are asked to meet at the funeral home at 2:45 P.M. Saturday. The family will receive friends at the Thomas Funeral Home from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Friday evening.
