Floy Fay Smith

Fay Blankenship Smith, age 89, of Calhoun, passed away Tuesday evening April 24th in Gordon Health Care. Fay was born June 8, 1922 in Murray County, daughter of the late Frank Blankenship and Ollie Mae Hall Blankenship. She was loved by her family and known for her sense of humor as well as her love of life. S he enjoyed cooking for her friends and family. Fay was the last living child of seven brothers and sisters, Jo Robertson, Dell Holcomb, Winnie Holcomb, Arvie Mauldin, Grady Blankenship, and Dick Blankenship. She was a proud military wife of James H. Smith a veteran of both WWII and Korea serving over 20 years in the United States Army before retiring in 1959. Survivors include two daughters, Shelia Hood and her husband Don and Mona Braddy all of Calhoun. Six grandchildren, Ashley Hisle and her husband Rodney of Louisville, Ky., Jason Hood and his wife Shelly of Calhoun, Jeffery Hood and his wife Heather of Calhoun, Jeremy Braddy and his wife Leah of Calhoun, Jade Whitehead and her husband Marty of Athens and Amber Baker of Calhoun. Ten great grandchildren along with a number of nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside rites will be conducted Friday April 27th at 2pm at Chandler Cemetery, with Minister Jerry Smith officiating. Pallbearers serving include, Jason Hood, Jeffery Hood, Jeremy Braddy, Marty Whitehead, Greg Holcomb, and Hank Chitwood.
