Mrs. Floy Dutton Ray of Rome and formerly of Calhoun died Wednesday March 10, 2010.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years James B. (Bill) Ray of Calhoun and Rome and son, J. Billie Ray, Jr. and his wife, Carol Blessing Ray of Osprey, FI. and Highlands N.C. and their children: grandson, Christopher James Ray and his wife Karen Rudt Ray of Hollywood, FI. and granddaughter, Leah McCallister (Calli) Ray of New York City. Also surviving is son, Eddie Lewis Ray and his wife, Mary Gelewski Ray of Columbus, Ga. and their children: granddaughter, Sierra Dutton Ray and grandson, Duncan Pommer Ray of Columbus, Ga. Floy is survived by a sister, Evie Watson of Adairsville and brothers, Junior (Marion), Max and Earl Dutton along with many beloved nieces and nephews and a very special friend who helped as her caregiver in the last few years, Mrs. Judy Thurman.
Floy was born Gordon County on April 3, 1920, daughter of the late Marion and Fannie Dutton. Bill and Floy traveled to many wonderful places in their retirement, often traveling with her sister Evie Watson and Evie's Church group from Rome. They lived almost all of their married life as residents of Gordon County, and for the last few years at a retirement home in Rome. As a young woman, Floy was a basketball star at Sonoraville High School, and she worked her younger years at Mt. Alto Mills. After her children were older, she also worked at Moore's Men's Store. Floy and Bill often volunteered as poll workers for local elections. She actively supported her sons and the Calhoun Schools and school organizations as her sons moved through grades and sports. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 17th in the Chapel of the Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. Interment wIll follow in the Fain Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday prior to the servIces.
The family requests no flowers; contributions, if desired, may be made to the First Baptist Church of Calhoun or your favorite charity.
