Fairell C. “Sonny” Causby, Jr., age 87 of Calhoun, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at his residence, after an extended illness.
Sonny was born on October 26, 1928 in Gordon County to the late Fairell C. Causby, Sr. and Bertie Greeson Causby.
He was a member of Pine Chapel Methodist Church and the Coosawattee Masonic Lodge #306. He retired from Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, with 36 years of faithful service. Sonny graduated from Red Bud High School. He served in the army and navy during the Korean War, and received the Purple Heart medal. In addition to his career, he loved to farm and garden, he loved all outdoors and nature. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ozelle Jordan; and nieces, Denna Jordan and Lynn Jordan.
Sonny is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marguerite Payne Causby; one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Chrissie Causby of Calhoun; one daughter, Kathi Causby of Calhoun; two grandsons, Stephen Causby, II and Seth Causby; one brother, and sister-in-law, Gary and Sharon Causby of Centre, AL; and two sisters, Robbie Causby and Sue Brackett of Pine Chapel.
For those who did not have the opportunity to know Sonny, the family says he was a man of great integrity, a man of his word, from a generation that knew hard work and determination. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always was willing to extend a helping hand.
The funeral service for Fairell C. “Sonny” Causby will be conducted on Saturday, April 23rd at 2 PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. Bert Vaughn and Dr. John Barber officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will be Stephen Causby II, Seth Causby, Dudley Meadows, Gary Duke, Heath Duke, Rodney Holcomb, Sam Harwell and Harry Harwell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Buck Prather, Marvin McBee, Ed Harkins, Kemp Mauldin, Calvin Caldwell, and Bobby Dodd.
Special thanks is given to the staff of Tapestry Hospice, Redmond Rehabilitation and Gordon Hospital.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12 PM until the funeral hour at 2 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pine Chapel Cemetery, Coosawattee Masonic Lodge #306, American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association.
