E. W. (Buck) Prather, age 90, died Monday, November 11, in Redmond Regional Medical Center of Rome after an illness of several days. He was born in Gordon County on November 6,1929 to Charlie & Opal Clark Prather who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Oweta Prather Phipps and a brother, Jimmy Prather.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley Fite Prather, his daughter, Vicki Prather Hodges and her husband Jerry of Claxton, Ga and his brother, Kenneth Prather and his wife Faye, along with nephews, Eddie & Charlotte Phipps, Kevin & Pat Phipps, Lynn & Jill Phipps, Bryan & Tracey Phipps, Kirk & Cathy Prather and Tommy Prather. Buck is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Buck was a member of Calhoun First Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the American Legion, Elks Club, and the Sonora Masonic Lodge F & AM. He served in the U. S. Army in the Korean Conflict.
Nephews Eddie, Lynn, Kevin, Bryan Phipps, Kirk, & Tommy Prather and Jacob Phipps & Steven Phipps will serve as pallbearers
Services to honor his life will be held Wednesday, November 13 at 2 PM at Calhoun First Baptist with the Reverend Dr. John Barber officiating. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 11 AM until the service hour of 2 PM.
Along with flowers a contribution to the First Baptist Church Building Fund will be appreciated.
