Mrs. Etta Lee Carpenter, 85 of Calhoun, died July 19, 2010 at her residence, following a brief illness.
Etta was born in Ballplay, Tn on July 19, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Bennie McNabb and Ina Cardin McNabb. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Etta was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church, and the Eastern Star, where she was past Worthy Matron of Resaca Lodge #498. She was also a member of the Antique Automobile Clubs of America, Chickamauga Region, the N.W. Georgia AACA Dalton Region, Rome Antique Car Club Clock Tower Region, Atlanta Antique Automobile Club, and The Model A. Club. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years James Ross Carpenter. Two brothers Eugene McNabb and Tommie McNabb and his wife Ethel. A daughter in law Beverly Carpenter also precedes her in death.
Survivors include, her son Jim Carpenter of Calhoun, two daughters; Karen McDonald and her husband Jim of Calhoun, and Marsha Leonard and fiancé Gary Wood of Chatsworth, also a daughter-in-law Shirley Carpenter of Calhoun,a sister-in-law; Louise Hall of Calhoun, two brothers; Bennie McNabb and wife Betty of Loudon, Tn, and Paul McNabb and wife Georgia of Athens, Tn, one sister Helen McNabb of Loudon, Tn, a special friend, Barbara Greeson amd sitter, Gladys Gossage. seven grandchildren; Holly Vinson and her husband Paul of Calhoun, Tonya McDonald of Calhoun, Lisa Beck and her husband Todd, Louie Pendley of Durango, Colorado, Norman Carpenter of Calhoun, Kasey Smith of Dalton, and Jan Serritt of Calhoun, eight great-grandchildren; Jason Chasteen and wife Leesa of Calhoun, Jimmy Dugan, Blain Vinson of Calhoun, Chaz Smith of Dalton, Jasey Smith, Faith Pendley of Durango, Colorado, Kansas Serritt, and Keisha Holt and her husband Brian of Calhoun, she also has several great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday July 22 from the Maranatha Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Bankson and Rev. Tommy Crider officiating. Internment will follow in Gordon Memorial Garden.
Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers and include; Norman Carpenter, Jimmy Dugan, Chaz Smith, Blain Vinson, Todd Beck, Kansas Serritt, Brian Holt, and Darrell Sprayberry. Honorary pallbearers will be; Louie Pendley, Paul Vinson, Ed Williams, Clifton Smith, and members of the Ladies Prayer Circle of Maranatha Baptist Church. They are asked to meet at the church at 1:45 P.M. Thursday July, 22.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 P.M. Wednesday July 21.
