Saturday, July 05, 2008 Mrs. Ethel Hales Charles, age 89, of the Ranger community. Died Saturday morning July 5th at her residence following several months of declining health. Mrs. Charles was born in Pickens County, July 12, 1918. Daughter of the late Thomas Green and Lula Gee Hales. She was a Homemaker and member of the Friendship Baptist Church near Ludville. Mrs. Charles was preceded in death by her husband, Valdon Curtis Charles in April 1958. Her son Frank Charles and a granddaughter, Teresa Ann Miller also precedes her. Survivors include two sons, Donald Charles of Calhoun and Jerry Charles and his wife Barbara of Ranger. Four daughters and their husbands, Lillie and Jack Dickey of Snellville, Dot and John Miller of Douglasville, Glenda and Truman Hendrix of Ranger, and Mary and Charles Dillard of Calhoun. Fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Monday July 7th at 3pm from the East Damascus Baptist Church. With Rev. Hollis Crook and Rev. Kevin Crook officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Celeste Hendrix, Shelia, Myron and Tina Clayton will have charge of the music. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and include, Greg Dickey, Tim Dickey, Chip Dillard, John Charles, Jeremy Charles, Jason Hendrix, and Donnie Charles. Great-grandsons will sever as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends Sunday July 6th from 3 until 6pm.
