Ernest “Ernie” Wilford Connell, Jr., age 90 of Calhoun, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at his residence.
Ernest was born on October 12, 1926 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Ernest Wilford Connell, Sr. and Emma Louise Head Connell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Ernest was a veteran of the United States Army, serving with distinction during WWII. He was a member of the Calhoun Seventh Day Adventist Church. Ernest was the second Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department formerly at Georgia Cumberland Academy. He was a home builder and constructed many homes in Calhoun and Gordon County, and was also a charter member and served as the first president of the Calhoun/Gordon County Home Builders Association. Ernest was a volunteer for Maranatha International, an organization for whose purpose was to construct schools and churches around the world.
Ernest is survived by two sons, Jim Connell of Wesley Chapel, FL, and Denny Connell and his wife Nita of New Jersey; daughter, Janet Reeves and her husband John of Calhoun; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 24th at 2 PM from the Calhoun Seventh Day Adventist Church.
The family will receive friends immediately follow the Memorial Service.
