Mrs. Elizabeth Dickinson, age 98, died peacefully at home on Monday, December 14th.
Mrs. Dickinson was born, March 4, 1917 in Cochran, GA, daughter of the late John Joseph Taylor and Lida Morris Taylor. She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Frank Marvin Dickinson. She is survived by 2 daughters, Lyda Bonifay (Ken) of Greensboro, GA and Sarah Ann Ezzell (Jim) of Nashville, TN. Mrs. Dickinson has 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Dickinson was born, raised and educated in Cochran, GA. She graduated from Blakely County High School and then attended Middle Georgia College where she was on the tennis team and was elected May Queen. She married and relocated following college to LaGrange, GA where she lived until 1950 when she moved with her family to Calhoun, GA.
A member of the First United Methodist Church, Mrs. Dickinson was a member of the WSCS, a kindergarten Sunday School teacher and a member of the Susannah Wesley Class.
Mrs. Dickinson was Secretary/Treasurer of Collins Petroleum and Basic Materials. She was a member and treasurer of the DAR.
Mrs. Dickinson was an avid gardener, a hobby she shared with her husband. They were known for having one of the most beautiful yards and gardens in Calhoun. Mrs. Dickinson was a member of the Sequoyah Garden Club. Mrs. Dickinson loved to play bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs. Formerly The First Lady of Calhoun, Mrs. Dickinson loved her community, her church, her family and friends.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, December 18th at 12 PM from the Calhoun First United Methodist Church with Reverend Eddie Herring and Reverend Ed Archer officiating. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Jan Goble, Jimmy Mathews, Larry House, David Lance, Reed Davis, Al Edwards, Tommy Shanahan and Matt Barton.
Elizabeth will lie in state at the church on Friday from 10 AM until the funeral hour at 12 PM.
