Mr. Edward Eugene "Eddie" Taylor, age 73 of the Plainview community passed away at the Hamilton Memorial Hospital on Friday, May 13, 2011, following several years of declining health. Mr. Taylor was born on March 6, 1938, son of the late Delphus and Mary Ruth Burnette Taylor. He was a member of the Farmville United Methodist Church and a graduate of Calhoun High School, Class of 1956. He served his country with two years service with the U.S. Navy Reserve and four years with the U.S. Air Force. He retired in 1995 from Georgia Natural Gas Company with 34 years of service. At the time of his retirement he was Superintendent of the Cherokee County Office. He was a member of the Calhoun Elks Lodge, Sonora Masonic Lodge #221, Echota Van Shrine Club and American Legion Post 47. He is survived by his wife, Myrna Dempsey Taylor to whom he was married for 49 years. One son, Timothy Edward Taylor of Calhoun, one grand-daughter, Cassidy Taylor and one grandson, John Gravitte; one sister, Carolyn Taylor Neal and her husband Billy of Calhoun; one brother, William “Billy” Taylor of Smyrna. Sister-in-laws & brother-in-laws: Carol & Robert Davis; Juanita & Donald Dempsey; Terry & Darlene Dempsey; Rick & Teresia Dempsey all of Calhoun; nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 pm on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday, May 16, 2011 at 2:00 pm from the Farmville United Methodist Church, 6906 Fairmount Highway SE, Calhoun, GA, with the Rev. Guy Kent officiating. Music will be arranged by Laura Dutton. Interment will be in the Chandler Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bryan Davis, Jason Dempsey, Larry Dempsey, Ed Andrews, Estes Pass and Joe Bland. Honorary pallbearers will be Members of Calhoun High School Class of 1956 and the Burger King Coffee Group.
