Mrs. Dorothy Shelor Pierce, age 89 of Smyrna and former resident of Gordon County died Monday July 14.
Mrs. Pierce was the daughter of the late Ethel Sloan Shelor and Clarence Bruce Shelor, both pioneer Gordon County families. Also, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Richard Campbell Pierce. She was an alumna of the Toccoa Falls College with training in secretarial science; and after graduation, she worked on the Manhattan Nuclear Project near Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She was a member of the Saint Benedict Episcopal Church of Smyrna.
She is survived by one son, David R. Pierce of San Francisco, two daughters, Linda Orr and her husband, Charles of Rome, and Nancy Stewart and her husband, Charles of Crossville, Tennessee; 4 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Saturday, 19 at the Saint Benedict Episcopal Church. Burial will be in the Saint James Episcopal Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday, July 17 at
Carmichael Funeral Home of Smyna.
