DORIS A. STARKEY OBITUARY

Thomas Funeral Home

Doris Arlene Dewey Starkey was born on August 1, 1933, in Los Angeles, California, to parents Earl and Priscilla Dewey. She died peacefully on June 2, 2024.

Doris’s childhood years were spent in Monterey Park, California, where her mother was a nurse, and her father worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad. She had early fond memories of the family traveling by rail. At the young age of four, she began taking piano and voice lessons. She carried this love of both music and travel throughout her life, giving her the opportunity to make many friends, enjoy new experiences, and share her musical talents with her church family.

In 1954, while in college at LaSierra University in Southern California, she met a handsome pre-med student from Minnesota, Don Starkey. Within 19 days, they were engaged and married six months later. Together they had four children and would have celebrated their 70th Anniversary in August of this year.

Doris is survived by her sons Dennis (Tami) Starkey of Dayton, Ohio, David (Kay) Starkey of Centerville, Ohio, Darrel (Connie) Starkey of Calhoun, Georgia, and her daughter Donna (Tony) Baumann of Calhoun, Georgia. She is also survived by six grandchildren and their spouses, six great-grandchildren, two nieces, a nephew, and their spouses. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Edward Dewey, of California.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Calhoun Seventh-day Adventist Church on June 29, 2024, with visitation from 3:30-4:15 p.m., and the service following at 4:30 p.m. with Elder Gary Rustad officiating.

For those who are unable to attend Mrs. Starkey's celebration of life, the church will live-stream her service at https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=calhoun+sda+church+live+stream

The family would like to thank the many medical professionals involved in Mom’s care over the last couple of years. She was grateful for each one of you.
