Sunday, January 24, 2010 Mrs. Doris Elizabeth Gravitt, 89, of the Sonoraville Community died Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 9:10 a.m. at Northeast Georgial Medical Center In Gainesville, Ga. She died from complications of surgery that she endured on January 17, 2010. She was born in Gordon County on February 12, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Balius Tatum McEntyre and Emma Hardy McEntyre. She had spent the first part of her life in Gordon County living with her parents and family. She then married Benjamin Grady Gravitt, Jr. and moved to Atlanta, Ga. where she lived until 1972. She then returned to her home town of Sonoraville, Ga. where she lived happily until her health failed in 2008. She moved to Cleveland, Ga. in October of 2008 to the home of her daughter Donna and son in law Thomas W. Derden, Jr., where she lived happily and healthy until Jaunuary 17, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Grady Gravitt, Jr. in 1976; her daughter, DeAnn Smith Jan. 1, 2004; brothers, Bradley, Ferguson, Aaron, Lorriane, and Tom McEntryre; and sisters Thelma Wood, Sallie Bowen. Prior to her ill health, she was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and emplyee of Georgia Textile in Calhoun, Ga. She was an acitive an member of Sonoraville Baptist Church until she suffered injuries that caused her inability to attend, but never did she cease to be involved. She worshiped every Sunday morning by radio or cd with her home church and enjoyed every minute of the worship services. Ms. Doris is survived by her daugher and son-in-law, Donna and Tommy Derden of Cleveland, Ga.; son Larry Gravitt of Conyers, Ga.; grandchildren-Brett Gravitt; Dawn Colier with husband Jason Colier of Cleveland, Ga.; Jennifer Rocks with husband Greg Rocks of Ballground, Ga. ; Lisa Dibble with husband David Dibble of Decatur, Ga.; Laura Farmer with husband Clay Farmer of Woodstock, Ga.; Stephanie Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; Dean Smith wife Kim Smith of Calhoun, Ga. ; Kevin Smith of New York; Great- Grandchildren; Madison, Chase, Nathaniel and Blake Colier, Avery and Alex Rocks, Cory and Abbey Farmer, Luke Dibble, Jake and Tyler Smith, a sister; Kathryn Garren of Clemson, S.C. Funeral services will be conducted Monday January 25th at 11am at the Sonoraville Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Skates officiating. Burial will follow in the Gaines Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening at the funeral home from 4 until 6pm.
