Monday, December 14, 2009 Mrs. Dora Powell, age 89 of Calhoun passed away Sunday, December 13 at her residence after several months of declining health. She was born in Gordon County, November 11, 1920, daughter of the late James Charlie and Alice Victoria Hall Smith, and was a retired textile worker. She was preceded in death by her husband Rufus Powell in 2006 and a sister, Vivian Smith Wilson in 1975. She is survived by a daughter and son- in- law, Phyllis Wright and Dr. J.A. Wright of Atlanta; a son and daughter in law, Steve and Sharon Powell of Calhoun. Grandchildren surviving are Rebekah Wright of Orlando, Florida, Christen Wright of Nashville, Tennessee, Nathan Powell of Falls Church, Virginia, and Natalie Coombe of Calhoun. Two great-grandchildren surviving are Catherine Jane Powell and Steven Landers Powell of Falls Church, Virginia. She is survived by a long-time dear friend and beloved neighbor, Ann Baxter Margadonna of Jacksonville, Florida. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church and the Susannah Wesley Sunday Sunday_School Class. Special friends include Geneva Klotz, Faye Kelley, Linda Stone, Candi Stone, Cathy Snyder, Rocky Brindle, and the Cracker Barrel Coffee Club. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 15 at the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. Brian Clark officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Powell family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 PM, Monday at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Nathan Powell, Larry House, Chip Wright, Frank Powell, Billy Johnson, and Peter Coombe. They are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:45 AM Tuesday.
