Don Mincey, age 65, of Calhoun died at 7:40 PM, Saturday, July 29th, in Piedmont Hospital of Atlanta. Don was born, September 12, 1957, in Gordon County, a son of the late Randolph Mincey and the former Miss Norma Lee Carter (Mincey); also, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Brittany Mincey.
Don was a member of the 1975 Graduating Class of Calhoun High School and a member of the Coosawattee Masonic Lodge #306 in the Pine Chapel Community. He was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church and a Past-President of the Calhoun Lions Club. He enjoyed riding his Harley and traveling in his R.V. and loved to eat after finding that elusive hole-in-the-wall-restaurant… He was always right as friends and family would say.
Don is survived by his wife of 44 years Cindy Brooks Mincey; children, Derrick S. Mincey (Chantal) of Maine and Brandi Homs (Josh) of Texas; brother Randy Mincey (Debbie) and sister, Judy Lee Mincey; 9 grandchildren, Andrew (Kallie) Mincey, Trinity Mincey, Dalayna Mincey, Dalyah Mincey, Stephanie Tuttle, Kylah Tuttle, Jacob Homs, Kendall Homs, and Carter Homs, and his beloved dog, “Lily” who had belonged to Brittany.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, August 1 at the Heritage Baptist Church with Reverend Shane Parrott and Dr. Steven Pearson officiating. Travis Stephens will have charge of music. Don’s body will lie in state at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Tuesday preceding the funeral. Pallbearers are David Bryant, Courtney Taylor, Chuck West, Noah Offutt, Steve Godwin, and Kenneth Cox. They are asked to meet at the church at 1:45 PM.
The Mincey family will receive friends at Thomas Funeral Home from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Monday. Don’s request is casual dress for both visitation and funeral.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pediatric Brain Tumor foundation, 6065 Roswell Road NE, Suite 505, Atlanta, 30328.
