Long time resident and local businessman, Don O. (Billy) Lewis, 87, passed away at his home on Friday April 6, 2012. "Billy" was born in Calhoun March 15, 1925, son of the late Arthur C. and Lillie Owens Lewis; he was preceded in death by his brother, Elzie Wilson Lewis, and sisters, Nan Jo Driver, and Betty Shoffner, and son-in-law, Marc Ethridge. He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Pat Kirk Lewis, their three children Cindy Lewis, Lori Ethridge, and Lindsay Lewis, and daughter-in-law Sarah Shivers Lewis and son-in-law Tom Hall; five grandchildren Lindsay Ethridge, Graves Ethridge, David Ethridge, Grant Lewis, Lillie Lewis, two step-grand children, Elizabeth Hall and Orion Hall and one great granddaughter Ruby Gene McCarron. Mr. Lewis was a member of Calhoun First United Methodist Church and a graduate of Calhoun High School. He attended West Georgia College and graduated from the University of Georgia, after serving in the United States Army in World War II in the European Theater where he was wounded in action during the Battle of Hurtgen Forest. Following his military service he received the Purple Heart for bravery in battle. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, April 9 at 11 :OOam at the Calhoun First United Methodist Church with Calvin Caldwell offering remarks and with the Reverend Dr. Brian Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pall Bearers will be Graves Ethridge, David Ethridge, Grant Lewis, Paul Shoffner, Jr., Orion Hall, and Peter McCarron. The family will receive friends at Thomas Funeral Home on Saturday, April 7 from 6-8 pm. Memorial gifts may be made to either the First United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.
