D.L. Floyd

. D. L. (Dagma Leake) Floyd, Jr., age 86, of Atlanta and formerly of Gordon County. Died Sunday May 16th at the Dekalb Medical Center. D.L. was born July 16, 1923 in Floyd County, son of the late Dagma Leake Floyd, Sr. and Naomi Marie Barton Floyd. He graduated from the University of Georgia and did his graduate studies at Duke University and Georgia State University. He was a member of the Oakhurst Presbyterian Church and a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Marine Corps, where he was awarded the Purple Heart while serving on Okinawa and in China. Prior to his retirement D.L. was employed by the John H. Harland Company and the Capital Food Company. He and his wife of 59 years lived a full life and especially enjoyed the past 20 years of life following his retirement. They particularly enjoyed their mornings together sipping coffee on the front porch of their Atlanta home and watching the swans swim across the adjacent lake. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Myra Kathryn Hopper Floyd of Atlanta, two sons; Michael D. Floyd of Birmingham, Al. and Kurt Anthony Floyd of Cumming,Ga. one brother; Dr. W. Robert Floyd of Chester, Va., and a sister; Dorothy Edwards of Athens, Ga. a daughter-in-law; Annette Thompson of Birmingham, Al. a sister-in-law: Martha Hopper of Calhoun, eight grandshildren and several nieces and nephews. Graveside and interment services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday from the Graveside in the Scott Cemetery in Plainville with Rev. Will Berkner and Rev. Paul Davis officiating. . Pallbearers serving include Russell Blackburn, Britt Carden, Turner Duffey, Daniel Floyd, John Floyd ,Kurt Floyd Jr., Rick McEntyre The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Tuesday Evening. CONTINUE STRAIGHT PAST THE INTERSECTION OF GA. 53 AND HWY 140, THEN IMMEDIATELY ON YOUR LEFT YOU'SEE THE PLAINVILLE ROAD NE. BEAR LEFT ONTO THE PLAINVILLE ROAD, AND WOLLOW IT UNTIL IT T'S OUT IN DOWNTOWN PLAINVILLE. TURN LEFT AT THE T OVER THE RAILROAD TRACKS. YOU'LL THEN PASS A BAPTIST CHURCH AND A METHODIST CHURCH ON YOUR RIGHT. AT THE METHODIST CHURCH, TURN RIGHT ONTO MOORES FERRY ROAD S.W. KEEP TO THE RIGHT AND YOU'LL SEE THE SCOTT CEMETERY ON YOUR RIGHT, UP A HILL. THE ROAD NAMES MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE SIGNS, BUT THEY SHOW UP ON GOOGLE MAPS.
