Dixie Sue Thomas Godfrey, age 85 of Calhoun, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at Redmond Medical Center surrounded by her family.
Dixie was born on August 22, 1932 in Gordon County to the late Clark West and Nellie Kate Jones. She was employed by Mannington Mills for 26 years later becoming employed by Gordon County School Board at Swain School for 8 years. Dixie was a member of the Eastern Star. She is preceded by death her husband, Dewey Thomas; son, Gilbert Boyd “Gubber” Thomas; three grandchildren, Cody and John Wayne Thomas and Candi Poore; brother and sister, Bill West, Max West, Ralph West, Howell West, Sarah Underwood and James Henry West.
She is survived by four sons, Wesley Thomas and his wife Rebecca of Summerville, Randy Thomas of Calhoun, Ronnie “Maddog” Thomas of Plainville, Jerrell Thomas and his wife Tina of Fairmount; two daughters, Elaine Love and her husband Mickey of Sonoraville, Sue Edwards and her husband Bill of Rosedale; 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 13 great, great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday, January 1, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Heritage Baptist Church with Dr. Brent Davis, Reverend Gary Hibberts and Dr. Larry Hibberts officiating. Burial will follow in Blackwood Springs Baptist Cemetery. She will lie in state from 10:00 AM, until the funeral hour. Pallbearers serving will include Parrish Dutton, Chae Dutton, Dustin Thomas, John Thomas, Justin Thomas, Jerry Thomas, Rodney Thomas, Matthew Salmon, Garrett Salmon, Zachary Thomas, Hamp Thomas, Ethan Eden, Dylan Thomas and Stetson Thomas. The Ruth Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Escorts.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 31, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Heritage Baptist Church.
